Abstract

Introduction: Providence Elderplace is a Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) that provides comprehensive medical and social services to older adults. GLP-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RA) have been available to partic-ipants who meet specific criteria. Given their increasing use, evaluating their safety in this population is essential. Objective(s): To determine the proportion of Elderplace participants on a GLP-1 RA who experienced adverse events leading to discontinuation, emergency department visits, or hospitalization. Methods: A retrospective chart review will be conducted using electronic health records (EPIC) to identify all Elderplace participants prescribed a GLP-1 RA between July 2023 and July 2024. Data collection will include de-mographics, comorbidities, concomitant medications, renal function, nutritional status, weight, BMI, duration of therapy, and reasons for discontinuation. Exclu-sion criteria include intentional therapy gaps due to supply issues or surgery, advanced palliative care, pre-existing renal dysfunction, and illicit drug use. Results: The primary outcome will be the proportion of participants who con-tinued or discontinued GLP-1 RA therapy due to adverse effects. Secondary outcomes include hospitalization rates, associated costs, and identification of patient characteristics predictive of successful long-term use. Conclusions: Findings will guide clinical decision-making at Providence Elderplace by identifying candidates most likely to benefit from GLP-1 RAs while minimizing adverse outcomes.
