Abstract
The need for, and benefits of, an integrated nurse leader development program is well-established. What requires further examination are education curricula that incorporate contemporary concepts into a nursing leadership journey that is separate from role orientation and is scalable and operationally sound across large health systems. This paper presents an internally developed leadership formation program that describes a successful method of improving and sustaining nurse manager performance over time. Understanding the roots of implicit bias paired with tactics to support team development and learning to build individual capacity to lead through promoting self-care activities are key to this outcome.
